School Board

The purpose of the Parish Education Advisory Board is:
  • To ensure the Catholic ethos is maintained and nurtured.
  • To share in the governance of the school.
  • To encourage lay ministry and community leadership.
  • To build and sustain relationships and partnerships.
  • To support the parish priest and the principal.
  • To ensure good governance through shared wisdom.
  • To bear witness to the principle of subsidiarity (decisions made at the local level).
  • To serve the entire school community.
  • To create futures and to consider the big picture.
  • To seek the optimum learning environment for all students.
Along with Fr Varghese Kattikatu (Parish Administrator) and Simon Collis (Principal), below are the members of the 2020 School Board:

Board Chair: Lisa Jones

Lisa Jones joined the Board in 2019, bringing strategic planning, policy, communication, legal and governance skills. Mum to Jasper (Year 4), she is looking forward to working with other Board members and families to build on the strong community spirit for which the school is known and think up new ways to make it an even richer experience for all.

Lisa spent 15 years working overseas with international humanitarian aid organisations. Since returning to Australia, after a very brief stint in private equity, she has worked with the Victorian government on emergency management reforms and creating a more diverse and inclusive sector. Lisa is also a director of Scarf, a social enterprise that supports young people in need of protection, or from refugee and migrant backgrounds, who face barriers to work.

The most recent career highlight is becoming coach to the St Joey’s Giants Juggernauts. So proud. Go team!

Board Member: Kristin Edmonds

Kristin and her husband, Ben, are delighted to be part of the St Joseph’s community with their two daughters – Seraphine in Year 2 and Isabelle in Year 5. Originally from San Francisco, Kristin currently works as the Managing Principal for a strategic advisory firm. Families seek her counsel when designing complex investment frameworks, managing family dynamics, navigating the transfer of wealth and multi-generational succession planning.

Kristin is also passionate about building financial literacy for women and enjoys giving back to her community. In addition to the St Joseph’s School Board, she also serves on the Australian Ballet Ambassadors Board and enjoys contributing to the Stanford Alumni Network by interviewing prospective students in Australia who are interested in attending her alma mater.

Board Member: Paul Hicks

My family and I have had the good fortune of being part of the St Joseph’s community since 2015. My career to date has covered a range of roles across a variety of industries including Chartered Accounting, Local Government, Banking, Media and Wine, making me something of a jack-of-all-trades. In my current role as Direct to Consumer Operations Manager at Treasury Wine Estates I oversee the disparate functions of systems, analytics, consumer relations, warehouse, logistics, product and inventory. This breadth of experience and perspective will I hope enable me to make a constructive contribution toward the Board’s initiatives.

Board Member: Andrew Van De Gumster

Andrew is a new board member, having only joined in 2019. He is coming up to 30 years work experience, consisting of a blend of time in the Royal Australian Air Force, assorted corporate leadership roles in the supply chain/supply chain ICT space and his own business since 2002. Hence, along with wife Amy and two beautiful children (Maddie Grade 2 and Loki who is about to turn 5) life is very busy, so of course the logical thing to do is join the St Jo’s board! Andrew is really looking forward to working with Simon and his team, the Parents and Friends and, of course, the other board members in supporting the school community.

Board Member: Jim Cardin

Jim Carden is father to Charlie, in Year 5 and, along with partner Stephanie, is an active member of the St Joseph's community.
Jim works in government and public affairs and brings to the school many year's experience in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors, including senior roles at QANTAS, NBN Co, Brisbane Airport, the Victorian Government and the City of Stonnington.

Jim loves helping the many social and sports activities, and, with fellow Board member Paul Hicks, is part of the school's unofficial rock and roll band.

Board Member: Shae Roberts

Shae joined the Board in 2019, bringing her accounting and risk advisory skills. Shae and her husband, Brendon, have four children with three currently attending St Joseph’s (Hugo, Year 5, Lucia Year 3, Allegra, Prep and Benedict, starting in 2023!) and she is looking forward to playing a key role in the school community by contributing to the Board’s initiatives.

Shae is a Chartered Accountant with 20 years’ experience in professional services both in Australia and overseas and is currently a Director at Deloitte. She specialises in the area of Forensic, conducting fraud, corruption and misconduct investigations and advisory. In recent years she has worked for a number of clients in the education sector which has provided useful insight into the business operations of educational institution and an understanding of some of the challenges faced, particularly around the areas of procurement and capital expenditure.

Board Member: Roger Pendred

Roger joined the school Board in 2019, bringing over 25 years management and leadership experience across numerous market sectors including maritime, resources and telecommunications. Roger has held CEO and director roles in the healthcare sector over the last 10 years. He has experience working in SME and large corporate settings in both for profit and not for profit businesses.

Roger and his wife, Ingrid, have twin boys, Hamish and Henry (in Year 1), who both love being part of St Joseph’s. They also have Louie, a Great Dane x Lab, that is very friendly and loves getting pats when he visits the school at pick up time. The school offers an incredible community for the children as well as their broader family. Along with others on the Board, Roger hopes to be able to contribute towards the future of the school and provide support to successfully realising the various initiatives and projects undertaken.

Board Member: Peta Edler

Peta and her husband, Alan, moved from Perth to Melbourne, with their two children, Isabel (4D) and Tom (2M), in 2019 and were delighted to join the St Joseph’s community.  Having been a board member at Isabel and Tom’s school in Perth she was excited to have the opportunity to join the board at St Joseph’s in 2019.

Peta has had over 15 years of experience in the construction industry, working as an Engineer and Sustainability Consultant.  She has led the design on a number of high-profile buildings around Australia to ensure new and refurbished commercial buildings are design and constructed in a more environmentally sustainable manner.
