During Term 3 and 4, 2019, at St. Joseph's embarked on renewing our Energy Star. We reviewed our practices, implemented new initiatives and improved our current practice to ensure our excellence in Energy is maintained!
New Environment Leader job descriptions (Prep - Year 6) were implemented to highlight our 'Switch Off' program. As part of this program, our Environment leaders educated their peers about the importance of energy conservation at home and at school, provided ways that they could conserve energy and were ‘in charge’ of the heating and cooling in the classroom.
In Term 4, Jess from CERES came to St Joseph's to audit our energy practices. Students from Years 3-6 participated in the audit, using Lux metres and thermometers to measure different energy uses around the school. We then collaborated and planned for the future, and improved our SEMP and goals for moving forward.
The students thought of some excellent ideas, such as introducing a weekly Earth Hour and beginning to plan for solar panels.
We acknowledge that we have some areas for improvement and we are working towards improved energy conservation practices. The students are ready to tackle these in the upcoming school year, along with our committed staff. We look forward to sharing our journey with you.
